19 on the Best Artists of the Decade chart. In 2003, MTV2 named Linkin Park the sixth-greatest band of the music video era and the third-best of the new millennium. Their seventh album One More Light, a more electronic and pop-oriented record, was released on May 19, 2017. Their sixth album, The Hunting Party (2014), returned to a heavier rock sound.

Their fifth album, Living Things (2012), combines musical elements from all of their previous records. The band continued to explore a wider variation of musical types in their fourth album, A Thousand Suns (2010), layering their music with more electronic sounds. The album topped the Billboard charts and had the third-best debut week of any album that year. Having adapted nu metal and rap metal to a radio-friendly yet densely layered style in Hybrid Theory and Meteora, the band explored other genres on their next studio album, Minutes to Midnight (2007). Their following studio album Meteora continued the band's success, topping the Billboard 200 album chart in 2003, and was followed by extensive touring and charity work. Formed in 1996, the band rose to international fame with their debut album Hybrid Theory (2000), which was certified Diamond by the RIAA in 2005 and multi-Platinum in several other countries. Team Rock criticized the move away from rock music, stating that the album "makes Ed Sheeran sound like Extreme Noise Terror. With One More Light, Linkin Park have waved goodbye to rock.Linkin aPark is an American rock band from Agoura Hills, California. there's no feral screaming from Chester Bennington, there are barely any riffs, and DJ Hahn has disappeared beneath the textured studio sheen." The problem is that much of One More Light is devoid of that visceral charge that previously defined much of their catalog. The issue is that it’s a weak and contrived commercial move (perhaps to compete with the likes of Twenty One Pilots)."ĪllMusic agreed, stating that "The issue isn't that it's a pop effort indeed, they get points for a brave attempt so outside of their wheelhouse. NME criticized the album's quality, giving it a 2/10 score and concluding that "It’s harsh to criticise a great band for trying something different, and it’s not an issue that this is a pop album. While the features are subpar, Pusha T does a good job on "Good Goodbye".Īt Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album has an average score of 46 out of 100 based on 7 reviews, which indicates "mixed or average" reviews. As usual it tackles emotional and relatable themes, including death and stress. The lyrics are really good on most of the album."Good Goodbye", "Talking to Myself", and especially the title track are great. The album merely went gold, in contrast to all their other albums that at least were certified platinum.Mike Shinoda also uses autotune on his voice, and he's a good singer as well without it. Chester Bennington having lots of autotune in his voice applies to the whole album, not just on the song Heavy.Stormzy's verse doesn't fit the song's true message and feels more self-centered, and Kiiara speaks for herself. Brad Delson, Rob Bourdon, and Dave "Phoenix" Farrell are also rarely featured on this album. Mike Shinoda only raps in one song, leaving his natural rapping talent to guests.Chester Bennington's vocals are very autotuned and Kiiara is a bad artist in general, not to mention it's generic structure and overall appeal to the mainstream audience. Some songs have excellent production while others are poorly produced. Production is extremely artificial and not very consistent. The biggest complaint the album received is how it went from the heavier The Hunting Party, which brought Linkin Park back to their nu-metal roots, to a mainstream sell-out move that was done by other rock artists such as Fall Out Boy, Paramore and Panic! At The Disco (and eventually in the future, Blink-182 and Bring Me The Horizon), become a pop group.
